MacDonald has turned out to be much more the “honorary Orthodox” than C.S. Lewis. I like the writing of both of course, but I do think Lewis tried to de-emphasize MacDonald’s universalism while praising his undeniable holiness and perpetual closeness to Christ. He might have allowed for the idea that the expansive love that envisioned the redemption of all was also the source of that holiness and Christ-like aspect.
