I should brood over this some more… To speak in avoidance of spoilers, is this in a line with what Prester John says to Lord Arglay’s brother-in-law, Sir Giles Tumulty in War in Heaven with respect to the Holy Graal and which is fulfilled in Many Dimensions with respect to the Stone, which precede it, and the shack of Lily Sammile in Descent into Hell, which follows?

Righto! (It may take a while…)

And, another possible thread pops into mind, as a sort of ‘foil’ – the ‘abused’: from Inkomasi (before the Mass frees him) and, in a different way, the ‘daring’ followers of Considine (and the mass followers, too) in Shadows of Ecstasy, to Pattison in War in Heaven, to the lab assistant in Many Dimensions, to Betty in All Hallows Eve, notably flanked by the dead and necromantically abused victims in ‘Divites Dimisit’ and its revised expansion, ‘The Prayers of the Pope’ (and Luna in Terror of Light).
